Case Study

Keeping up with the growing demand for its industry-leading drivetrain products, including clutches and torque converters, requires ongoing changes within this automotive part manufacturer’s facility. Members of the plant maintenance team are routinely called on to reconfigure production lines, rearranging equipment to improve the process flow. As part of their continuous improvement efforts, new equipment is routinely incorporated to increase productivity and quality.

For more than ten years, this industry leading automotive manufacturer has relied on CEI Crane & Rigging to assist with delivering and positioning new equipment and with rigging and relocating existing production equipment like massive lathes and brazing furnaces.

“CEI was already working in this facility, doing other work, when I joined the company in 2006,” says the company’s plant maintenance manager in Wooster. “Since others here were pleased with their work, I had CEI take care of some equipment moves. I was impressed with their work and continued to use them. We’ve developed a good relationship with them, and they have become my main source for rigging and moving equipment.”

One of things that the company particularly appreciates about CEI is the company’s flexibility. While many equipment moves can be planned well in advance, it’s not uncommon to have urgent, short-notice projects.

“Probably the most impressive response from CEI was when I got notice at 5:00 on Friday afternoon that equipment was on the way to the plant,” the client recalls. “I normally have maintenance people here who can help, but they were gone for the day. I called CEI, and they had people and the required equipment here at 7:00 to help with the equipment.”

While speed and responsiveness are at the top of this manager’s list, cost and quality are also must-haves. According to  the client, CEI meets both of those requirements as well. He also appreciates the fact that CEI has provided storage for new, incoming equipment until the installation date.

“CEI Crane & Rigging is very flexible when it comes to meeting our needs and strives to send people who are familiar with our facilities and our requirements,” says the client. “For moving medium and large pieces of equipment, I would recommend them without question.”
