TRAINING MATTERS
Imagine a difficult job that requires extreme precision, perfect balance and the lifting and moving of heavy objects, often in tight spaces. You would want only the most experienced teams conducting this work. These are the exact requirements for rigging and heavy haul services, and for the most experienced teams, you need CEI Crane & Rigging.
CEI employs only those that have fully completed forklift safety training and strictly follows all OSHA forklift safety rules and guidelines. We take safety standards and safety compliance very seriously.
At CEI, of our forklift operators are trained and certified under the latest Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, our crane operators are certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and all CEI riggers have completed full rigger safety training in their apprenticeship. With a very low turnover rate, we can provide forklift and crane operators and riggers who are very familiar with our equipment and who know how to work well together as a team.
To operate a forklift safely in heavy lift jobs, the team of riggers and forklift operators need to be diligent in monitoring a variety of factors.
HEAVY HAUL OPERATIONS SAFETY CHECKLIST
What type of safety considerations are necessary to complete a heavy haul operation?
A forklift operator and the rigging team must focus on:
- Balancing the load
- Keeping a low center of gravity
- Avoidance of overloading
- Ensuring the safety of pedestrians and surrounding structures
- Unloading safety
Internal checks are in place to check the skill and knowledge of our team on an ongoing basis. CEI performs regular safety evaluations, including both field safety inspections and regular equipment inspections. This way, we can be confident we’re equipped to complete jobs safely and efficiently.
RIGGING SAFETY MEASURES
What type of forklift handles a heavy haul? While a typical forklift has forks that carry a load, the forklifts that carry heavy loads use a rigging boom that suspends the object in the air for transportation. This is a better method for large, heavy loads as it reduces the possibility of tipping over.
A rigger’s job is to assist the crane operators by handling the rigging of the machinery and the load. They then work in conjunction with the operators to ensure the load is safety transported to its intended destination.
“Because of our low turnover, our forklift operators and riggers have worked together for years. This helps enhance communication and simply makes all processes easier,” says Brian Selinsky, president of CEI.
