Combi Manufacturing Plant Relocation

Challenge

Combi Packaging Systems engineers and manufactures automated packaging solutions customized to fit a variety of industries. Their solutions include case erectors, tray erectors, case sealers, case packers and ergonomic hand packing stations.

Need

Combi Packaging Systems needed more room. After several years of tremendous growth, the company needed a larger manufacturing facility to maintain its current production pace. But the size and weight of their equipment posed a unique challenge for their plant relocation. They turned to CEI Crane & Rigging for support.

Result

Millwright services for heavy equipment moving. Project coordination between multiple parties
“We wanted to move for more space and better location… The new plant gives us roughly 60,000 square feet.”

Ask any manufacturer and they will tell you that plant relocations are often intimidating and stressful. The process is complex and requires a highly coordinated team to minimize risk and disruption. Combi Packaging Systems faced this challenge when they needed to relocate their entire manufacturing plant quickly while keeping production downtime to a minimum. Recognizing the scale of the move, Combi knew they needed an experienced, specialized partner to manage the relocation and coordinate the project from start to finish.

CEI Crane and Rigging was prepared for the challenge, handling the move of equipment between Combi’s former location on Martindale Road in Canton, Ohio, and its new facility on Dressler Road in North Canton, Ohio. The goal was clear: keep operations running so Combi could continue serving its customers. The relocation also positioned the company for future growth, providing approximately 60,000 additional square feet of space and a better overall location, according to Combi machine shop supervisor Mike Stinchcomb.

The scope of work included moving 3,000 pound weld tables and mills weighing up to two tons, all within tight and narrow spaces that required careful planning and precision. By working multiple shifts, the CEI team completed the entire move in just three days. When asked if he would recommend CEI Crane and Rigging to peers in the industry, Stinchcomb said yes, noting that they did a great job.
